Postgraduate Academic Programs

 

The IWE is implementing two postgraduate degrees: Master program in Water and Environmental Science, and a joint PhD Program in Water Technology, which is a joint program with Islamic University of Gaza. Both academic programs have accredited and recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education in Palestine.

Programs Vision


Post graduates programs (Master in Water and Environmental Sciences and PhD in Water Technology) are designed in order to reach a good understanding of water problems, pollution and scarcity, and how find reasonable and feasible solution for those problem. This goal can be achieved by studying the environmental pollutants and estimating their impacts on human and environment. Therefore, there is need for treating wastewater and benefit of using the treatment water  and infrastructure facilities  to ensure the quality of water resources and management. These academic programs offer the opportunity for our  students to gain the scientific and the practical knowledge in the domain of water and environment.  Also,  they  enhance  the  environmental awareness  and  the  necessary  experiences  to  develop  water  and  environment  areas. Moreover, graduates will involve  in  developing practical methods and solutions for the environmental problems through specialized scientific courses.


The target group: 

  • The faculty of science graduates such as: Geology, Chemistry,  Microbiology, Medical laboratory,  Environmental Science, Agriculture.
  • The department of engineering graduates such as: Environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering.
  • The scientific discipline graduates.

Programs Objectives:

  • Develop the academic level of the university and the enhancing educational programs through the offering a postgraduate  programs specialized in water and the environment.
  • Contribute to increasing the capacity of Palestinian researchers and their ability of innovative scientific thinking and public awareness in the water and environment sectors.
  • Upgrade the infrastructure in  water and environment  sector through rehabilitating and improve the capacity of the professional employees .
  • Establishing  a sustainable databases  and focal point between scattered environmental sectors.
  • To acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to deal with the scientific and practical inputs in the water and environment sectors and to open the horizons for future strategies and plans to deal with the current and future water and environmental situation in the Gaza Strip.

 

Program Outcomes:

  • Graduating  specialized researchers and experts who are able to deal and interact with the various environmental problems.
  •  Enable graduates  to understand the elements and analysis of the multi-dimensional environmental issues  to serve the Palestinian society.
  • To  recognize  the  local  and the regional  challenges  in  the  fields  of  water  and environment.
  • Ability to deal with the different mechanisms for water and wastewater treatment and reuse.
  • Participating with the international community in conducting multidisciplinary scientific researches and mutual exchange of academic and scientific experiences.
  • Improving the living conditions of the Palestinian people by raising standards of life quality.

The study plan for the master program in Water and Environmental Science:

The students in the master program of Water and Environmental Sciences are required to successfully complete 36 credit hours. The credit hours are distributed as follows: 18 compulsory credit hours in 6 courses, 12 elective credit hours in 4 courses, and 6 thesis credit hours.

The study plan for the joint PhD program in water technology The study plan consists of 48 credit hours distributed as follows:
-  Compulsory courses: 1 8  credit hours
-  Elective Courses: 1 2  credit hours
-  Passing a comprehensive exam.
-  Dissertation: 18 credit hours

There are two tracks of specializations:
1) Water desalination track.
2) Water and wastewater treatment track.
