NEW DIRECTIONS IN ONE-POT AROMATIC VICARIOUS NUCLEOPHILIC SUBSTITUTION OF HYDROGEN

A series of novel one-pot vicarious nucleophilic substitution/alkylation reactions is described. The reaction of the anion of ethyl 2-chloropropanoate with nitrobenzene proceeds via a nucleophilic intermediate. A subsequent reaction of this intermediate with a number of alkylating agents affords a series of novel esters bearing a quaternary center.
