The Faculty of Education at Al-Azhar University Gaza (AUG) held a seminar on the ethics of dealing with persons with disabilities. The seminar was held in the conference room building in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Alian, Dean of the Education Faculty, and Dr. Bassem Abu Kwik Head of the Department of Psychology, Tawfeeq Alghoola; Chairman of the General Federation for people with disabilities in Gaza and a group of interested and concerned students and Faculty members. At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Alian welcomed the attendees. He then stressed on the Faculty's stand with the rights of the disabled and their integration within the community like any normal person. Moreover, he explained that there is an intention to open a special laboratory for individuals with disabilities at the Faculty of Education to benefit disabled individuals and raise the awareness among the public of their rights. Professor Al-Ghool; in his part, pointed out to the presence of five branches of the Federation in the Gaza Strip, and sixteen branches in the West Bank. He also added that the Federation aims to integrate disabled individuals within the community, overcome disabled individuals obstacles and raise awareness. Furthermore, he explained the concept of disability at the local level and within the laws of the united nation. Moreover, Professor Al-Ghool mentioned that the Federation has a membership of more than 20 thousand disabled people. He also added that the most important objectives of the Federation are the enactment of laws and legislations for individuals with disabilities, representing them in local and international forums and work to integrate them into society through programs designed in advance, noting that the numbers of people with disabilities is on the rise and they face a great deal of challenges during integrating them within the large community. Mohammad Abu Kamil; a disabled students, spoke about his life with disability, the difficulties he faces in life, his achievements despite disability. He also explained the importance of putting in consideration that Disabled individuals are Human beings; thus, people should be careful when using terms to describe his condition.
