Jul 19, 2016 – In the context of improving the teaching practicum process according to the readiness-to-teach indicator, the Faculty of Education at AUG hosted a delegation from the Ministry of Education of Teacher Education Improvement Project (TIEP), funded by the World Bank.
The delegation consisted of Dr. Shahnaz Al Far, Director General of Supervision and Qualifications, Dr. Suhair Qasem, Director of the Training Teacher Department, Dr. Abdallah Ibrahim Bsharat, Ms. Khitam Sukar and Mr. Ayman Hamamreh from the Directorate General for Supervision and Qualifications, and Mr. Murai Al Sous and Ms. Hanan Jebril from the National Institute for EducationTraining.
The visit aimed to meet with educational carders and specialists in the Faculty of Education to discuss the outputs of the first phase (pilot phase) of TIEP which included strengthening “school-based practice” of pre-service teacher education programs implemented at a cost of (US$2,473,000). The first phase of the project seeks to improve the quality of graduates of teacher education programs by reforming and strengthening the school experience component of their program of studies and bringing them to the level of what is considered international good practice. Hence, the attendees reviewed the structure of the teaching practicum process, courses descriptions, project's stages, and the appropriate evaluation methods.
TIEP's primary objective is to improve the competencies and skills of class teachers (i.e., those teaching grades one to four) in WBG schools, and hence contribute to enhancing students’ learning in primary schools. TIEP is implemented in four universities in the West Bank (Birzeit, Al-Quds, Hebron, and Al-Najah Universities) and one university in Gaza , Al Azhar University –Gaza (AUG).
