On April 27, 2016 – Prof. Sufian Abu Nijaila, Associate Professor of Psychology, Faculty of Education at AUG participated in the First Annual Conference of Psychology. The conference, which took place at Bethlehem University, was under the patronage of the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Sabri Saydam.
Due to Israeli restrictions on Palestinian travel, Prof. Abu Nijaila discussed via Skype his paper entitled "Moral Foundations and their Relationship to the Three Components of Authoritarianism and Political Behavior among Gaza University Students," in the Panel themed "Applications of Psychology in the Political Life of the Palestinian Citizens."
Prof. Abu Nijaila stressed that the objective of his study is to validate some of the assumptions upon which the moral foundations theory was established. Moreover, the study aims to consider some researchers' opinions which deemed the differences in political trends as reflections of differences in the moral foundations.
The results of this study are of a paramount importance to understand the psychological factors that support the regime in Palestine as well as the Palestinian division. Therefore, the study recommends taking these results into consideration to achieve the national reconciliation and end the division that plagued the Palestinians.
