Launch IEW at AUG




Nov 16, 2016 – In cooperation with the American Consulate General in Jerusalem and Education USA AMIDEAST, AUG launched the International Education Week (IEW) for the year 2016.

The launch event took place in the American Corner- Gaza (ACG) at AUG and was connected with the Ministry of Education in Ramallah through video conference link. It was attended by American Consul General Donald Blome; Dr. Sabri Saidam, Minister of Education; and Mr. Steven Keller, AMIDEAST Country Director; Prof. Dr. Sami Muslih, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Dr. Usama Zaineldeen, Vice President Assistant for Academic Affairs; Dr. Jamal Al Shareef, Head of English Department; Mr. Essam Mattar, American Consulate Coordinator in Gaza; Mr. Akram Al-Baghdadi, Educational Advisor and a huge number of students.

 In IWE's opening remarks, Mr. Keller said "the theme for IWE this year is "Empowering Youth through International Education" which comes in parallel with President Obama's initiative "English for all". He highlighted the programs offered by AMIDEAST that infuses IWE's theme and the initiative of English for all.

In his remarks, Consul General Blome applauded the first- ever U.S-Palestinian Higher Education Dialogue which was held last month to build sustainable partnerships between US and Palestinian Universities and foster linkage with the private sector.

In his turn, Dr. Saidam expressed his pride in the Palestinian Education, especially after reaping prestigious awards such as the teacher Hanan Al Hroub who won  the Global Teacher Prize and Talae' Al Amal school in Nablus which won the Arab Reading Challenge.

In AUG's remarks, Prof. Muslih praised the fruitful cooperation with the US Consulate General though AMIDEAST Office in Gaza that has resulted in implementing significant projects such as the American Corner- Gaza (ACG) , Leadership and Teacher Development Program (LTD), Teacher Educator Enhancement Program (TEEP) , Professional Certificate in English Language Teaching (PCELT), and Palestinian Faculty Development Program .

The event, celebrated on three days, included sessions of exchange programs and scholarships as well as how to study and work in the US.
