Nov 16, 2016 – AUG graduate, physician Basel Abuwarda won MBC Hope award in “Doing Good” competition 2016. He won the award for his Save Gaza Project in the "Humanitarian Issues" category.
Save Gaza Project is a humanitarian initiative that depends solely on volunteers to assist with humanitarian work. It has implemented a number of projects such as building a school for children with special needs after destructing their only school the recent war, empowering widowed women and creating job opportunities for them, supplying pregnant women and children with the necessary kits, and providing children with special need with wheelchairs.
Furthermore, with MBC Hope's support, Save Gaza has launched a project to provide 1.500 students from the victims of wars with bags and school supplies. Save Gaza also has provided tuition assistance to university students, distributed food parcels in Ramadan and sacrifices in the Eid al-Adha for many poor families, and launched a radio program to raise awareness of children's cancer.
Dr. Abuwarda is a Human rights activist, former President of IFMSA-GAZA, and is currently residing in Germany for pursuing his studies in cardiac surgery.
