Dec 22, 2016 – In cooperation with UNDP, AUG held a workshop under the title "National Proposal for an Economic and Spatial Vision for the Gaza Governorates".
The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Hani Nijm, AUG Trustee; Prof. Dr. Sami Muslih, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Marwan Al Agha, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs; a number of University Council; Eng. Mohammed Al Wazir, Director of Projects Unit; Dr. Samih al-Abed, Former Minister of Planning and the Palestinian Investment Fund Consultant; and Eng. Emad Elian, Gaza Vision Champion & Coordinator in addition to a number of AUG faculty members.
During the workshop, Gaza Vision team presented a detailed report of the vision that positions Gaza as Palestine's Gateway to the world. The initiative aims to provide a holistic national vision for Gaza through the implementation of over 70 catalytic projects that are intended to help deliver the spatial vision across different time scales. Subsequently, this spatial vision will help alleviate some of the pressing challenges in Gaza, contributing towards full-fledged economic and social prosperity.
It is worth mentioning that this vision was launched by a group of Palestinian private sector leaders from the West Bank, Gaza and the Diaspora.
