Jul 13, 2017 – AUG welcomed a delegation from the Representative Office of Norway to Palestine, headed by Mr. Tor Erik Gjerde, Head of Cooperation and Mr. Emadeddin Abdallah, Senior Advisor in the office.
Prof. Dr. Sami Muslih, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Prof. Dr. Usama Zaineldeen, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Mazen Hamada, President of the Board-University Presidency; Eng. Mohammed Al Wazir, Director of Projects Unit; Eng. Raghib Atallah, President Advisor for Engineering and Technical Affairs; and Eng. Maher Anan, Advisor for Future for Palestine Institution in Gaza welcomed the visiting delegates.
Prof. Dr. Muslih applauded the fruitful cooperation with the Representative Office of Norway that was crowned with a project to supply, install, and operate solar power plant in Al Jaleel Building on the eastern campus. He appreciated the efforts of UNDP for coordinating to enter the project's materials as well as the efforts of Future for Palestine for supervising the project implementation.
For his part, Mr. Gjerde briefed on the projects implemented in the field of infrastructure to contribute to alleviate the burden on the Palestinian people, especially marginalized and vulnerable groups.
Eng. Al Wazir delivered a presentation on the components of the project and the implementation stages as far as the final stage where the system now works efficiently and is monitored through the web by a joint committee from the university and Mega Power, the executing company of the project in Gaza. Eng. Al Wazir pointed out that this project contributes to reduce the operating expenses of the university and find alternative source of electricity in light of the chronic electricity crisis and the rolling power cuts in the Gaza Strip.
At the end of the visit, the delegates expressed their delight with the success of the project, promising to support AUG to achieve more of such vital projects.
