AUG Topped GS Universities in Webometrics Ranking




Jul 16, 2017 – AUG has consolidated its leading position among the Palestinian universities in Webometrics of World Universities, based on a key indicator: the transparency or openness of the universities.

In the fourth edition released by Webometrics web ranking for July 2017 version, AUG ranked as the first university in the Gaza Strip and the third in Palestine.

The ranking methodology used the institutional profiles introduced by Google Scholar Citations for providing a ranking of universities according to the information provided for the groups of scholars sharing the same standardized name and email address of an institution.

 The Webometrics ranking evaluated the universities based on Google Scholar Citation (GSC) to track the number of citations obtained by researchers who published their research on GSC profiles affiliated to their institutional web domains. Universities were arranged based on the total number of citations for the top 10 public profiles of each university excluding the first most cited profile.

 Accordingly, the total number of citations for AUG researchers reached 7295 citations, topping the first on Gazan universities, the third on Palestinian universities, and 2582 from a pool of more than 5,000 universities worldwide.   

Dr. Ali Abu Zaid, Dean of Planning and Quality Assurance, said that this achievement reflected the high status of AUG scholars, pointing out the deanship efforts to prepare the profiles of AUG researchers according to the requirements of Google Scholar, which is the largest database of scientific research and quality indicators.

It is worth to mention that the total number of citations of AUG scholars according GSC is 19,000.
