October 15, 2018 – In coordination with the Faculty of Medicine and the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS), Breast Cancer awareness campaign entitled ‘You Are Life’ was organized by International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) – Gaza at AUG.
The event was attended by Dr. Hani Nejm, President of the University, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, Chairman of PMRS Board of Directors, Member in the Legislative Council, General Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative, Dr. Ayed Yaghi, Director of PMRS in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Suhail Al-Madbak, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Majid Abu Ramadan, Member of the Board of Trustees, International Cooperation and Information Officer, Dr. Marwan Al-Agha, Vice-President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, in addition to several members of the University Council, Members of Faculty of Medicine and representatives of local and international health institutions
After welcoming the attendees, Dr. Hani Nejm praised the exceptional role of women in serving the Palestinian community and stressed that anything that puts their life in danger should be a top priority.
For his part, Dr. Al-Madbak briefed about The Faculty of Medicine efforts in raising awareness about this type of disease, and highlighted the critical importance of early examination which reduces the likelihood of infection
Dr. Muhannad Abu Shamala, Member of IFMSA, talked about the federation’s continuous efforts in promoting health awareness including several upcoming events dedicated to female students at universities.
During his speech, Dr. Al Bargouthi highlighted that Palestinian Medical Relief is determined to raise the community awareness about early examination as breast cancer tops the list of tumours diseases in women around the world.
The awareness campaign included a lecture on breast cancer symptoms, self-examination methods, and challenges faced by physicians in the Gaza Strip. The lecture was conducted by Dr. Sobhi Skeik
At the end of the event, the attendees visited various sections of the awareness campaign exhibition
